Wedge Sneakers: HOT or NOT?

Isabel Marant $760.....sold out
One of the newest shoe trends is the wedge sneakers. Yes you heard me right, a shoe that is meant to be comfortable like a sneaker but fashionable like a wedge. Celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Tracey Ellis Ross have been seen rocking this shoe trend by Isabel Marant for $760!!!!

There are other designers that have created their version of the shoe as well for cheaper.

Marc Jacobs $320...sold out...waiting list
www.asos.com $193....sold out

At first sight, I was really feeling the sneaker wedge and I went on a hunt for them, which was very difficult. Either the shoe was way too much and/or sold out. But I found a version of the shoe from Macys for $64.

But as I was thinking more about this shoe, I began to talk myself out of buying it. Mainly because this shoe is way too trendy, I honestly don't see it being "in" for more than a couple of seasons....and that's being generous. I like to stay current with the trends but I want my pieces to be able to be "in style" for a while. The sneaker wedge reminds me of the Manolo Blahnik Timberland boot and the sneaker heels....a trend that didn't last long. If you ever owned a pair of those, I'm pretty sure you've thrown them out by now.

Either a sneaker is a sneaker or a wedge is a wedge, I don't think the two should marry. Even though I was initially on the band wagon, I think this is a shoe that I would look back on and say "what was I thinking?"

I would love to hear your thoughts, is the wedge sneaker, hot or not?

  1. If it helps, I was in Copenhagen a couple of years ago and that's actually where I saw this trend first. Well, there and random photos from Korean street style websites. So, it's nice to see that this trend has finally come to America (if a chunkier version).

When I saw it on the Denmark folk, I thought it was FABULOUS and glad to see that it can be "in style" for many seasons...I think the American versions are just a bit too colorful? And that's why it feels like it'll be out of touch so soon. I bought a pair the next time I was in Denmark. They're a nice, brownish color and not too many bells and whistles. I still wear em today and get loads of compliments.

  2. Definitely trendy! For under $100 I might try. Although it could not be too colorful. The colorful version takes away the artistry of the shoe.
